Prepare for Severe Weather, Save Sales Tax

Starting in March, severe weather becomes a constant theme for Alabama. Tornado sirens, pre-empted local television broadcasts, and abrupt changes to work/school schedules are a common occurrence as a result of the tornadic activity that can hit the Tennessee Valley and the rest of the state through May. Thankfully, the Alabama Department of Revenue has made a special weekend that exempts certain purchases from state sales tax. February 26-28, 2021, is this year's Severe Weather Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday.

Critical items that every North Alabama resident should own like weather radios, first aid kits, and flashlights (see the full list) can be purchased on the Sales Tax Holiday weekend for a 9% savings for Madison & Huntsville residents.

Also, if you are a football fan, this could be an ideal time to stock up on tailgating items. Generators, tents, and more are tax-free now, too. If the pandemic kept you away from your football Saturdays, go big in 2021 and upgrade your tailgate!
